April 2019's Top PlayStation Downloads

PlayStation.Blog recently released data on April 2019's top digital download sales for PS4, Free-to-Play, and PS VR games - making Mortal Kombat 11, Apex Legends, and Beat Saber the most "popular" of the bunch.

I use popular very lightly, as data from the review site Metacritic shows that even with Mortal Kombat 11 taking the number one spot for April's most downloaded PlayStation game, it currently holds a critic rating of 83 percent (with 82 total current ratings) and a user rating of 30 percent (with 1,582 total current ratings).

On the other hand, Days Gone holds the second spot in April's most downloaded PlayStation game, where its Metacritic rating lies with the critic's at 72 percent (with 101 total current ratings) and a user rating of 80 percent (with 2,928 total current ratings).

Mortal Kombat 11 has been currently suffering due to an intensive grind which Metacritic user Gunf1ghter said, "It is absolutely crap! $6,500 for the game (with all opened content)? I am not so stupid. Let's compare with God of War: 1) God of War costs $60 for the FULL in-game content. You can't pay more, even if you want. 2) Mortal Kombat 11 costs $60 for the basics. If you want to receive full content, you have to pay more and more. For example, five fatalities cost $20, and you have to spend $6,440 to receive all content."

Gunf1ghter was one of 60+ users who wrote a review for Mortal Kombat 11 and gave it a 0 percent.

While Mortal Kombat 11 sold well, mainly due to it being Mortal-FREAKING-Kombat, it seemed to disappoint most fans; however, Days Gone shows that even with an average world and okay gunplay, that gamers are more inclined to play a full game experience for one price instead of the microtransaction era we are currently in - showing a missing connection between the voice of a company and its users.
